Something New...
I am so excited to share this with you! When I got the rights back to DREAMS OF THE PAST, I knew I wanted to add a bonus scene so to speak. The Last Chance Beach: Summer's End box set was amazing! But it was rated G. We all know my books are not G-rated ;) so that means we have an extended scene. With the new content, comes a new cover. But that would mean that DARK PAST wouldn't match DREAMS OF THE PAST, and we can't have that. So thanks to my assistant Kelly at Author's Write Hand, I now have two new covers.
Original covers:
New covers:
From Summer to Fall...What's New?
Hi All! The box set Last Chance Beach: Summer's End has ended with the Summer. Now that we are fully into Fall, the box set has been taken down. The good news is that I will be releasing my story from the set on my own. That means if you are not a Kindle reader this is your chance, since I will release it wide (meaning at Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google, etc).
My story is Dreams of the Past and I will set it at $.99. This is the second story in my Fatal Instincts world and I'm almost finished with the next book in that series. I really don't want Dreams of the Past to be down for too long so we're looking at a January release date.
I'll send out a newsletter soon with all the details and an excerpt. You can sign up here if you aren't already.
Thanks everyone, and I hope you're all having a lovely Fall! Perhaps we'll see some more stories take place in Last Chance Beach...I have a feeling there's more to tell over there.
She needs rest, he needs relaxation…
Jenny Travers wants a fresh start. Leaving the nightmares of her past behind her, she heads to Last Chance Beach. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds peaceful and relaxing, which is exactly what she needs.
What she doesn’t need is a man.
Lieutenant Commander Scott Gordon was injured by an IED on his last mission, and while his leg has healed, it’ll never be strong enough to stay on his SEAL team. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds like the perfect place to figure out how he’s going to handle his new normal.
He never expected to find a woman in his bed.
A mix-up at the rental agency means Jenny and Scott are both renting the small cottage. Sharing a space with a stranger should be hard, yet they both feel more at peace than they have in months.
Will their summer romance last, or is the magic of Sea Glass Cottage all they’ll have…
Happy Book Birthday to Me!
Last Chance Beach: Summer's End is out today! The box set is $.99 for a limited time, and it's also in Kindle Unlimited (which if you don't have, I believe it's two months free right now).
Have you heard of the Legend of Last Chance Beach?
My story is called Dreams of the Past and it will fit in the Fatal Instincts world. This story is not a Romantic Suspense, but rather a sweet romance.
This box set is $.99 for a limited time, and it's also in Kindle Unlimited.
There's also a companion book that's free right now called Cocktails on Last Chance Beach. In it, you'll find each author's favorite beachy cocktail or mocktail.
So stop by Last Chance Beach, grab a drink, and read the story that The Book Reading Gals called, "the perfect read for summer, an escape from the what if’s of next month and return or not return of school"
"I try not to have favorites when I read anthologies but how could I not talk about Laura Hunsaker's Dreams of the Past…If you’ve never read Laura then you should fix this. Her new romantic suspense series is AMAZING. Like HelenKay Dimon, Laura Kaye, Cindy Gerard, Elle Kennedy good..."

Last Chance Beach: Summer's End is a box set about summer love and it all takes place in Last Chance Beach, a tourist island.
Pre-Order here
All 14 of us have written a story on Last Chance Beach, and while our stories are all stand-alones, they all take place on the island. You'll see the same restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, and maybe a cross-over character or two.
My contribution to Last Chance Beach is something a short story that takes place in my Fatal Instincts world, however, it is not a Romantic Suspense. It's a sweet beach romance. In this story, Jenny from Dark Past gets her happily ever after. She had a rough time in Dark Past, but she and her hero Scott both wind up renting the same bungalow and oops! there's only one bed ;) Whatever will they do?
Today is the cover reveal! Isn't it gorgeous? You should swing by the Romance Gems blog to check out the other stories in the box set and don't forget to enter the July Amazon gift card giveaway!

Amethyst Heat Has a New Look
My short story Amethyst Heat has a new look!
I mean if this doesn't scream "Highlander Take Me Away," what does?
I had a new cover made for Amethyst Heat and since it's no longer available on New Concepts Publishing's website, I've made it free everywhere. This is the same short story that you may have read here on my website, but I've made it so you can download the story from your favorite ebook retailer.

Update: Book Signing and Books Recs
I'm sorry guys, but stay home, practice Social Distancing, wash your hands, and read a book. You know what prevents you from touching your face? Books ;) You know what can keep you busy when your wifi goes down (this happened at my house today. Seriously bad timing). But books don't need wifi! Books never go bad, they're easy to store, and since they don't expire, grab several!
Here are some that I'll be reading these next couple of weeks (links are to Amazon):
Ghost of a Chance by Cynthia Eden
Out of Time by Monica McCarty
The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai (this one is on kindle Unlimited right now, which if you haven't joined, here's a link and the first 2 months are free)
The Beginner's Guide To Necromancy by Hailey Edwards is on KU, and I binged those books over the summer.
I've been re-reading the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews and Magic Bites Book 1 is on sale for $2.99. I love this series.
I think I'll make another post in a week and try to add more recommendations. I mean we have to pass at least the next month all cooped up, so I'm going to tackle that TBR list!
Book Signing in Las Vegas!
If you'll be in the Las Vegas area on March 28, please stop by and say hi! I'll be selling copies of Icing the Puck which I write as Kenzie MacLir ,and even though I didn't write Going All In, I'll be selling copies of that one too since it's the book that started the New York Empires' journey.
You can find the Icing the Puck book page here.
This is a hockey romance series with a hint of the paranormal. Each book has 3 stories, all stories play out with each other. You get to see the team from each author's point of view. We all worked really hard to make sure the books work well with each other and the timelines flow. You'll see major events from one story from a different point of view in another story. I think it's a really neat way to write a series.
Coming soon...very very soon...
We have the third New York Empires book coming out! Roughing It is currently undergoing it's second round of edits, so I'll have a solid date very soon. (keep your eyes on this site, I'll be showing you all the amazing cover here first!)
Guys...werewolf hockey players, female goalies, twin brothers who hide secrets from each other...there's so much going on and throughout the anthology? The Empires are looking for a new goal tender.
So the awesome thing about this book signing is that I'll be selling the first 2 books in the Empires series, and hopefully it'll create interest in Roughing It.
Here are some pictures from previous Local Author Showcases, and fingers crossed, I'll see some of you there!

Inspiration Strikes!
Around Valentine's Day we always see these awful articles about "Trashy" Romance novels, "bodice rippers," and Fabio. Fabio hasn't even been on a Romance cover since the early '90s. I mean, seriously?
So I wanted to try the opposite of one of those articles.
I want to talk about how we are the opposite of the stereotypical bodice ripper with Fabio starring front and center. Let's talk about how different Romance novels are.
One thing I love is how much variety there is in the Romance World (or Romancelandia as we affectionately call it). If you want a book about a surfer heroine who time travels to Scotland and meets her hero? There's a book for that (Highland Games by Laura Hunsaker). What if you want a Navy SEAL whose platoon was sold out and is trying to clear his name but also has an investigative journalist dogging his steps? There's a book for that (Off the Grid by Monica McCarty). What if you want a fallen woman who was done wrong but her hero respects her and shows her what love really is? There's a book for that (The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan FREE). What if you want a hero who looks like bearded Captain America who falls for the good girl? There's a book for that! (Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder). What if you want a vampire/ angel/viking who falls for a human lawyer, well, you guessed it, there's a book for that (Kiss of Temptation by Sandra Hill). If you want a book that has demons, angels, magic, and an Arabic feel to the mythology, there's a book for that! (Fate's Match by Elysabeth Grace). If you want it, I'm sure there's a book for that.
One thing you'll notice, no matter how much people cry "formulaic!" or "cliche!" or "tropes!" is that even the ones that have similar tropes, are different. It's what's in the middle that's important.
If you want a book about a damsel in distress rescued by her prince, it's out there. But...what if your damsel in distress rescues herself?
What if, in between your "Once upon and time," and your "they lived happily ever after," something unexpected happens? Something that sets the reader's world on its axis. Something that creates a romance fan for life. This is what we Romance fans live for; that middle part, that in between part. I know each Romance novel I pick up is a promise of "happily ever after," but it's how those characters get to that point that keeps me flipping pages. That journey is what makes each Romance novel different, and that difference should be celebrated instead of poked fun at for clicks during Valentine's Day.
Instead of trashy and lurid, Romance novels are uplifting and happy. They can be everything. They can be empowering, entertaining, and enjoyable. They can be intense, dark, light, easy, fluffy, and fun. I really wish people would leave the stereotypes out of the picture.
We've even taken back the term "bodice ripper." (quick side note: If you ever get a chance to visit L.A. you should stop by the Ripped Bodice, a bookstore dedicated only to Romance, and seriously, they are amazing! They do a lot of author events, and a lot of good in the community).
And we not only have taken back bodice rippers, we're taking back Valentine's Day. We refuse to let trashy clickbait articles about guilty pleasures take over a day celebrating love. You want to celebrate love by reading your favorite comfort read, go for it. You want to read something new and out of your comfort zone, do it! You want to read an old bodice ripper? You rip that bodice! But you want to poke fun at Romance novels when you haven't read one since 1972? Nope. Come back after you've read anything written in the past 5 years. You need some recs? I gotchu.

And if you want a Scottish blacksmith vampire try my short story The Broken Highlander which is free this week on amazon :)
Previously published in the charity anthology Shades of Pink Volume 2, The Broken Highlander is the prequel to Highlander Reborn.
In the darkest hours after waking from death to his life as a vampire, blacksmith Nevin MacLachlan must learn to adjust to his new existence. While he adapts quickly to his enhanced senses, he hates the vampires that took everything from him. Forsaking the Nightkind, he plans to survive on his own.
No one said it would be easy.
For centuries he tries to blend in with humans, but what kind of blacksmith only works at night? After being chased from his home time and time again, Nevin no longer has compassion for the humans he once knew.
The only things keeping him from becoming completely feral are his sense of honor, and the teasing memory of the woman who changed him. With no clan to belong to, human or Nightkind, Nevin finds out survival isn’t the only thing to live for, and that eternity is a long time to hate what you’ve become.
Romance For Puerto Rico
The Romance for PR silent auction will raise funds for The Hispanic Federation and World Central Kitchen. As you read this, these organizations are in Puerto Rico providing much-needed relief for those affected by the earthquakes, many still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Maria which made landfall in September of 2017.

I'll post our tentative blurb for Roughing It, the latest installment in the New York Empires series.
Our story is called Against the Boards and it follows Kyle Sandberg, hotshot forward, and best friend to Reiner Jahr, the hero from Change it Up in the Icing the Puck anthology. The three stories are written together, each author has a different teammate. Look for a female goalie, a billionaire hockey player, and some werewolves. Enjoy!
My Workspace
About 5 years ago or so we moved into a house that has a downstairs room. I used to write in the loft of our old house, because that's where the computer was, but now? I had an office. I was so excited for this! And then I discovered that at night, which is primarily when I write, I don't like being tucked away downstairs away from the sleeping family. I'm so contrary! First the loft was too busy, now the office is too lonely...Okay Goldilocks, which is just right?
I felt guilty since I had kept asking for an office and I finally had one to myself, so I kept at it, but mostly ended up at the dinner table. It made it easier to hear the baby monitor (it didn't reach to the office) and watch the kids. But as the kids got older, they started taking it over. My husband built them a pretty cool hideout and rock wall. Do you know how hard it is to work with someone hanging above you like it's a jungle gym? So. Hard.
As the baby got older, I started working in my room. She played a lot in my room and I would sit on my bed or the floor. After a while, my neck and back would bother me from typing in bed. I kept mentioning getting a small cushioned bench or couch for the foot of the bed, but my husband surprised me last year and bought a floating desk that folds away.
So while I still work in my room, now I'm at least at a desk. And I don't have to share it with the kids. Although they are in my room constantly. But I've discovered that I don't mind the noise. :)
