Fatal Instincts Book 2 is called...

My Fatal Instincts series has a new installment. Dangerous Past is book two, coming after Dark Past and Dreams of the Past. This one is a full-length novel, and it's so good. You guys are going to love this one.

Coming up after that is another short story/novella (12,000 words-ish) that is a happy surprise story. I can't wait to share this with you all! I have a title thanks to super amazing author K.T. Grant, and I'll share that once I get a cover ;)

Speaking of covers... we've got a cover for Dangerous Past!

She’s running from her past…

Lark Seawell is the daughter of a serial killer. His reputation has long been a shadow looming over her since his arrest when she was a child. Especially since she’s the one who called the police. She has spent her entire life trying to live as anonymously and quietly as possible. She is not her father’s legacy.

He wants to be her future...

FBI agent Jay Sutherland is visiting a friend in a small mountain town when free spirit Lark asks for help with her injured dog. He is instantly enamored with her, and their one night stand stays with him far into the next morning, though Lark is long gone. When his partner realizes that she is the daughter of The Highwayman, Jay refuses to believe Lark is anything like her father.

What happens when she stops running…

When a trail of dead bodies follows Lark on her cross-country drive, the FBI believes she’s the killer. How can the sweet woman who rescues injured animals and makes him feel things he hasn’t felt in years be a murderer? The bodies don’t lie. Jay knows there’s more at play. If he’s wrong, and Lark is as much a monster as her father, he may be the next target…

Sunshiney heroine, gruff hero, one night stand leads to more…

What Started Your Love of Reading?

I recently shared over in the Romance Gems Facebook group about my youngest's newfound love of reading and Harry Potter:

My 8 year old’s third grade teacher started reading her class Harry Potter right before school ended. I’m excited to say, she is hooked! She’s so hooked that we had to run to Target to buy the movies.
We spent the whole first week of summer break bingeing the series. She’s reading the second book now, and as I found, she bought herself a couple of things (thanks one click amazon LOL).
She one clicked herself a cursive practice book! I’m not even mad!
(Pardon my laundry which I covered for you all) but seriously how cute is she? So she’s watching the movies dressed as Hermione, has a wand, her cursive practice books, and the books themselves!
Her love of reading bedtime stories has always been there, but this year we’ve seen her love of reading alone emerge. It used to be mom or dad reading to her. Now she’s her own little person reading her own choices. Luckily our library is fantastic and we can keep up with her addiction.
But it got me to thinking. This might be the memory she looks back on and says, “this is where my love of reading began.”

But I don't know as I've ever really shared my own "moment" with you guys.

Picture it, Sicily...just kidding, it was Eagle Lake. My parents used to take us camping all the time when I was little, and when I was 13, I fished a little, but I don't really love camping, so I was wandering around the campgrounds when I discovered a small library at the campsite. It was full of Harlequin categories. My little heart was in love. I had been a reader since I was about 4 years old. When I was 10, a library was built within walking distance of my house and I lived there, so I had always read. But I had read what was available, and what was familiar. And in my house, that was my dad's Science Fiction and Fantasy collection.

Reading Romance that three day weekend meant I read 3-4 books per day and did zero fishing or hiking. I was fully okay with that. I took home one of the books (sorry, Eagle Lake!) and I used the Harlequin post card to sign up for their monthly book subscription service. I don't think I ever really missed the Sci Fi/Fantasy books my dad had. Romance is where my heart lies.

The first actual book I remember reading after that camping trip was one I found in my mom's nightstand. A Laurel O'Donnell book called The Angel and The Prince. This book was everything. And the heroine was a warrior! She wasn't just the damsel in distress! My little teenage heart was in love.

So, tell me now, do you remember your first Romance book? Do you remember when your love of reading really set in? Or was it always just there, a part of you? Tell me in the comments!

The Book Made Me Do It

The other day a friend asked if there was anything a book had ever influenced you to do? As in, let’s say you were taking a trip to London. Have all of those Regencies made you want to see Vauxhall? Or Covent Garden? How about those Scottish Romances? Did you buy your man (or self!) a kilt? Well, my answer is a lot less normal and incredibly embarrassing.

In my teens, I was all about the Harlequin categories. I devoured them. I was in the subscription service and I was obsessed with the Australian Outback romances. There was one in particular....I wish I could find the book for you, I really do. But here goes. I was so in love with one book that I bought the outfit the heroine was wearing.

In my mind I was this adventurous heroine who would one day meet her rugged Australian hero and Chris Hemsworth, uh I mean, the random man who had no resemblance whatsoever to any actors, would sweep me off my feet.

In reality? I probably looked like a camp counselor or a zookeeper. A lot less sexy heroine, and a lot more Crocodile Hunter.

So how about you? Has a book ever influenced you to do something?

A Surprising Find

Recently my friend, and fellow author, K.T. Grant came to my town! We got to hang out by the pool all day and go wander around the Venetian. The shops at the Venetian are fun to look at, don't get me wrong, but none compared to what we found ourselves staring at.

There is a store there called Bauman Rare Books and oh my gosh it is amazing! I have to be honest, I didn't know we had rare bookstores here where I live. I mean, New York, London, Paris...sure. But The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas? Really?

I was afraid to even go in! But you know I did! I held the straps of my purse very tightly so I wouldn't be tempted to touch anything, because boy did I want to touch! I got to look at pages from a Book of Hours from the Middle Ages, I got to see something Napoleon had signed. I mean this place was pretty awesome, and I just knew you could appreciate it.

I have never been inside a rare book shop before, so this was such a unique experience. How about you? Have you ever been inside one?

Rec Me All The Romance

The other day at work, one of my coworkers told me that there was a super hot guy out front asking for me. When I get up to the office of my school, I go up there and all I can think is that this guy looks good in that shirt. I'm talking, GOOD.

You guys.

YOU GUYS.

It was my husband.

He swung by the school to grab my keys so he could get my tires rotated and wash my car. You guys. I checked out my own husband.

I have been married almost 20 years and I didn't recognize my own husband in a mask...you'd think I'd at least recognize his shirt!

Sooo...kinda made me want to read any romance about married couples/second chances. Give me all your recs please! Any sub genre; PNR, Romantic Suspense, Contemporay, Historical, your own if you’re an author...I don’t care, but I need this now!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! As we usher in the New Year, I've been thinking about resolutions. I don't usually make them, but I do usually set some goals and I think this year I will actually set one. I'll share a post I wrote for the Smart Girls Read Romance Blog:

This past year and a half has been hard in so many ways, and this year, with Christmas just having past, feels like it's driving in the point of how much I missed.

I feel like I've procrastinated so many things I normally wouldn't, and I've missed out on things I typically wouldn't. I was feeling pretty down this year. I mean, I didn't even send out Christmas cards! First time in almost 20 years that I didn't send out Christmas cards!

I was setting up my planner for the week, getting ready for the New Year, when I came across as sticker that said, "Be Present, Not Perfect." That one really hit home for me. I don't need it to be perfect, I need to be present in my life, in my family's lives. But it doesn't have to be perfect. I think this is my new motto.

I know it's not quite New Year's Day yet, but I think that my New Year's Resolution is to be present, not perfect.

How about you? Are you a New Year's resolution type person? Do you set them and forget them?

May 2022 be a wonderful year for all of us.  I wish you happiness and peace for the coming year.
