An Update and a Q & A

Hi guys! Really quickly I wanted to let you know that I'm over at author Allison Cosgrove's Stan Brookshire blog for a Q&A. I talk a little bit about why I self-published Highlander Reborn and why I stayed with my current publisher New Concepts Publishing for Highland Games.

Coming up I'll be guesting on a few other authors' blogs. Lindsay Buroker, Britt Bury, are coming up next, and I'll keep this updated for my next blog spots.

I'll end with a fabulous review of Highlander Reborn (this was posted on Bitten by Paranormal Romance)

"Totally Loved it! It was great because it was a short read but the story was good, it's not something you can put down easily. Even tho Nevin left his maker the night he was made, and hates what he is, he still helps Amalia when she finds him all of those centuries later.  The initial tension between Nevin and Amalia is what makes that first sex scene so awesome, and the connection so great. I would definitely recommend this book and any others of Laura Hunsaker."

This is the cover for Highlander Reborn, my short story that will be available October 2, 2012.
Isn't it fabulous? You can add it to your Goodreads to-be-read shelf too!  I'm so excited to be able to share Nevin and Amalia's story with you guys.

Highlander Reborn

Highlander Reborn

Highlander Reborn begins in Scotland, many centuries ago, where a blacksmith fights for his life and his people. His life is forever changed when Amalia, one of the Nightkind, makes the choice to save his life. But first, he has to die...

1304…

After Nevin MacLachlan’s wife was killed by a vampire, he made it his mission to hunt them all down. But one late Highland night, in a battle he couldn’t win, one of the Nightkind ripped open his throat. With his blood draining onto the grass, the last thing Nevin sees isn’t a white light; it’s the dark of night closing in on him.

Amalia has been enamored with the blacksmith ever since he first held a stake to her heart. Watching him die was unacceptable. Will he ever forgive her for turning him into what he hates most?

Nevin has lived his life alone for a reason. When Amalia walks back into his life seven centuries later asking for help, he wants nothing more but to turn his back to her. But something about her still calls to him.

Some of the Nightkind in Amalia’s seethe have been killed. It’s up to her to find Nevin and ask for his help. But how can she show Nevin that she isn’t the monster he thinks she is?

News!

Wow, so, I have some news for you guys. In case you don't follow me on twitter, my big news is that not only will Highland Games be coming out soon, but New Concepts Publishing wants to publish the rest of the Magic in the Highlands series! This is so exciting!

My next bit of news is that I've finished up a short story that I've just submitted. I have to wait now, which is the long and boring part, but I plan on making this one into a series. This one is called Highlander Reborn. The cool thing is that the hero is a vampire Highlander, and I can't wait to share more on that! More can be found on my Coming Soon page.

I have 2 really cool things coming up. On September 10th, I'll be giving a talk at the Gibson Library in Henderson. I'm going to be touching on several big points, but because the crowd these talks draw don't usually have too many romance readers, I'm going to open with Fabio. Everyone knows who he is, and everyone automatically thinks of romance novels. I'm going to segue into branding from there, and possibly talk about handling author/reader interaction as well. It's still a work-in-progress.

Coming up in October of 2013 (yeah, a full year away), there will be a conference in Las Vegas for authors and readers. It's called Hot Mojave Knights. I'm one of the featured authors there! It's really affordable for a conference, and it looks like it will be a blast! Hope to see you there.

Multi-Author Signing

I was invited by my local RWA chapter (Romance Writers of America) to take part in a multi-author signing at the Paseo Verde Library on August 18th. For anyone in the area, it's a really great chance to meet some great authors. Swing by and chat!

(BTW, I tried to make the image bigger, but couldn't. However, if you click on it, it comes up big enough to read the other author names)

I don't normally blog very much over here, other than to let you know what I've been up to.

I think I'd like to change that.  I want to blog a bit more, just in general.  Little things, like what are you reading? I just finished Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove series and LOVED it!

Also, I've been contacted by the Henderson Library system, and they want me to give a talk about writing. Uh...wow! What on earth will I say?  Last month, they had Robyn Carr and Victoria Dahl, this month was Vicki Pettersen and Deborah Coonts...I'm supposed to follow that act? Yikes. But, I'm thrilled and slightly nervous, and thrilled some more.

What should I talk about?

Every single time!

Well, today over at Limecello's blog, I prove that you can indeed wear that gown again. And again. And again. Go see where I wore mine (hint: "I'm on a horse").

"As passionate readers, every now and again we come across Small Press, or independent authors who are passionate, creative, and are interested in having a fun time exploring. They have such a strong voice to emphasize how much they love to write, and they take the risk of putting their work out here in the world to be loved or criticized.

Readers love a good story, whether it's revealed in poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction. We are interested in fresh, fun, quirky voices. We have a huge soft spot for writers who haven't been accepted by major publishing companies, but we recognize their talents. So here, our goal is to make a difference and share with other readers / bloggers just how awesome "Small Press" and "Independent" authors truly are.

Here at SER's we have had the distinct pleasure to read some really fantastic books by these authors, and we are excited about this hop, and putting the spotlight on them."

Book Signing Update

Hi guys,

On January 23rd, 2012, I'm doing a booksigning at the Paseo Verde library in Henderson--
280 S. Green Valley Parkway
Henderson, NV 89012
(702) 492-7252

I am so excited, and would love your help spreading the word. This is only my second booksigning and I'm nervous as can be, so come support me so I don't look lonely at my table. I'll also be selling copies of Highland Destiny there as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

And in just as exciting news, there's a great new review of Highland Destiny over at Day Dreaming which you can read HERE

My favorite line is "Two simple words can sum it up—LOVED IT! Connor MacRae is a wickedly sexy highlander who knows how to make me purr..."

Fabio, Fabio, Wherefore art thou Fabio?

As some of you guys may have noticed, on twitter, I've been the "Fabio Hussy" for the past couple weeks. I thought I'd share why. I found this book for cheap and cracked up at the fact that Fabio is the author. Well, I just had to read it. My friends teased me to no end, I still get random Fabio tweets (I'm lookin' at you, Ren, Ang, and Annie). So in case any of my lovely followers were wondering about the Fabio avatar, this review should sum it all up:

DangerousDangerous by Fabio

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Oh Fabio, Why oh why did you decide to write?

The front page says "In Collaboration with Wendy Corsi Straub" so we know Fabio didn't actually write this book, but the best part is that he wrote more than just one book!

I can't do this book justice in a review, so I'm posting all my tweets and status updates as a review for you guys. (I saw this review here and had to pick it up when I saw it for a dime)

My review, sort of:

The cover: The bike and leather tells me he's Dangerous, but the sexy Fabio abs tell me he's sexy too

I see nothing but the smoldering look he's giving me..read me, love me, I am Italian studmuffin Fabio

Fabio thinks Fabio has sexy abs. You want to touch Fabio. Come here and run your fingers on Fabio

*yes all that mane of hair that blows in the non-existent wind.

*I think Fabio's manly sexiness was too much and she swooned

*this book is so awful, but soo funny

*No! I haven't met him, but if I ever see Fabio I will talk to him in only third person "Laurie loved Fabio's book. Laurie would like a pic"

*anyone who thinks Fabio actually wrote this is crazy. We all know he stood around looking all Fabio-ish in his open Pirate shirt, showing his man cleavage and wearing leather pants while some poor woman tried to make sense of his words.

*I can't take Fabio seriously, I just can't!

*I'm sad, not once has anyone said "I can't believe it's not butter"

*Fabio thinks Fabio has sexy abs. You want to touch Fabio. Come here and run your fingers on Fabio

*it reminds me of a Saturday night live skit. It's like the book makes fun of Fabio and he's so intense and serious about it!!

*Fabio knows romance-I give the ladies not just 1 but 2 Fabios! because if 1 Fabio is sexy, 2 Fabios are double the sexy

"please, let me make love to you." her reply was a single heated word:"Yes." oh the cheesy Fabioness of it

This was a super fun read. Oh, don't get me wrong the writing was awful, and Fabio's ideas of what passes for a romance novel + romantic suspense plot were just crazy, but it was so fun to read. If you see this one for cheap, pick it up for the tongue-in-cheek entertainment value.

Dont' take this book seriously, you will be disappointed.

New Pictures

At my local RWA chapter we had cover model Jimmy Thomas come by and give a presentation about branding. Not only was it incredibly informative, it was great fun staring at Jimmy Thomas for a few hours ;)

I did want to share a couple of the pictures we took, and to remind everyone you can all find me on facebook now. My fanpage is linked by the facebook button on the right side.

I'm so close to finishing my novella, Highland Games, and as soon as I hear anything I'll post about it here, twitter, facebook, heck-- I'll be screaming from my roof! So once I have something worth sharing, don't worry, you will find out.

In the past week I was over at Bona Fide Reflections for an interview, giveaway and guest post...it was a blast being the author of the week :)

I'll be at www.thebookvixen.com soon with a fun post, and at www.madamedsboudoir.blogspot.com coming soon.

On Nov. 2nd I'll be at a new blog called http://samsawesomness.blogspot.com/ and there will be a giveaway there too.

But as I promised you, pictures of Jimmy Thomas and me :)

The Book Vixen

For all who know the Book Vixen, she's due any day now to have her baby. While she's on maternity leave I offered to write a guest post for her blog. My question to you is what would you like to hear about?

I've written about "Highlanders" and I've written enough mini biographies about myself that I'd like to do something new. So let me know what you'd like me write about. Feel free to answer me on goodreads, or here, I read both. And let me know what you prefer.

My ideas so far are to write a bit about the novella I'm working on called Highland Games or to maybe do a story started from a picture and have everyone add a bit on. I could even do a Q&A session with it.

Tom Selleck, Chocolate Cake and Firsts...

Jojo's Book Corner

Today I'm over at JoJo's Book Corner talking about my favorite cake recipe, and my romantic first...not that kind of first! Get your minds out of the gutter ;)

Enter here if you dare

I'm talking about my first romance novel. You know the one-the one that made you fall in love with the genre. That first, tempting, romantic, delicious romance novel in all its bodice-rippery goodness. To find out what mine was, and to enter the giveaway, swing by JoJo's and find out why on earth Tom Selleck is a part of this post.

And a quick little Announcement:

I have a new facebook fan page, please go "like" me. There's a handy little button on the right side of the website ---->>>>

There are lots more announcements and links to other blog giveaways

There's a little interview and giveaway with me over at Scorching Book Reviews

And if you're curious to see what Malcolm, my latest hero, has been up to, he's over at Day Dreaming

Pimping out My Friend Jenna Maclaine

Hi guys!

A while back, my friend mailed me a few books she thought were just awesome. I put them on my nightstand (which most of you know is my to-be-read pile) and I didn't really think about the books again for a while. Then I was rearranging the books (i.e. playing Tetris with the books trying to make them fit!) and I saw the 3 books. I paged through the first one and was instantly hooked. I read through all three within the week, and loved them so much I emailed the author to let her know how much I loved her series. I then bought the series, since I had to return my bestie's books.

This series is the Cin Craven series by Jenna Maclaine, and it is to date one of my favorites.

Jenna is so fun and easy to talk to, that I stalked found her on facebook and twitter and she will never be able to get rid of me, NEVER! muahahaha! er, I mean, and I am now a lifelong fan ;)

But the thing that drove me nuts is that she also has several (4 I believe)novellas written, but they are all in anthologies. The 2 from the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance, and the Mammoth Book of Irish Romance are now available outside of the anthologies. Today my life is complete! Jenna posted those 2 novellas on Smashwords! Woohoo! So here I am, telling you that you should check out the Cin Craven series, and if you don't want to buy the big anthologies, you don't have to! Hooray!

http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/jennamaclaine

Here are the full-length novels in the Cin Craven series-you won't be sorry, they are awesome! (And Michael's a Scottish vampire who wields a claymore! Can't go wrong there!)
